Give a little time and build Skills for Life.

The Scout Group

The basic unit of organisation is the Scout Group. This is based in a local community and usually consists of Squirrel Scouts, Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Scouts.

Some Groups are larger or smaller depending on where they are located. One Group may contain one or two Squirrel Scout Dreys, one or two Beaver Scout Colonies, one or two Cub Scout Packs and a Scout Troop. Another may consist only of one section.

A few Groups in a certain locality constitute a Scout District. Several Districts make up a County (or Area in Wales and a Region in Scotland).

All these Scout units (Groups, Districts, Counties/Areas/Regions) are governed by the Policy, Organisation and Rules of The Scout Association, which provides the framework in which all Scout units operate.

Within a Scout Group, there will be several adult leaders, who give their time voluntarily to help the development of young people.

The Group is led by the Group Scout Leader, whose job is to co-ordinate the Group’s activities and to ensure continuity and development.

The GSL at 10th Mansfield Scouts is Roger Ambler.

Volunteer

You don’t need to be Bear Grylls to join us. You don’t need to have been a Scout when you were younger. You don’t even need to know how to put up a tent. Our door is open to people of all ages, genders, races and backgrounds, and we’re only able to change lives because people like you lend a hand.

There are lots of ways you can get involved, from helping occasionally on a parent rota or volunteering your time as a leader to supporting local Scouting. Our volunteering opportunities are as varied as you! Because no two Scout meetings are the same. The difference you make, though, is always great.

Whatever your skillset, lend a hand for as little or as much time as you can spare, and we promise you’ll get more out than you put in. As long as you're over 18, you can help out as an adult volunteer in Scouting. There is no upper age limit for adult volunteers. If you are aged between 14 and 18, there is the option of becoming a Young Leader.

Sounds fun? Worthwhile? It is.

Incredibly proud moment today for our group. Nottinghamshire Scouts awarded their annual Oak Awards, and 10th Mansfield Scout Group received the group award for Mansfield District, nominated by our District Lead Volunteer Pete Hawley.
This award is recognition for the incredible work put in by our volunteers, be that our leaders delivering scouting every week, our amazing trustee board, our parents and of course our young members. It also is recognition of the renewed sense of community we have with local area.
Last year we set out our 5 year development plan, and this award is testament to the hard work everyone has contributed. We are way ahead of our initial timescales in nearly all areas, but we won't just sit back, we will keep growing and developing as a group.
Thank you to everyone.

Well we have done it!!!
After lots of hard fundraising over the past few years, we were delighted yesterday when John and Carolyn Radford presented us a cheque from Mansfield Town Football Club for £20,000!! This amazing act of generosity from them means we have now reached our target and can purchase our very own minibus.
When I think back to this time last year and the disappointment of being told we had received a £15k grant from CVS, only to have this cruelly taken away from us three days later, I can only thank the unbelievable efforts and hard work that has made this happen.
Having our own minibus means that we can be flexible in what we can offer our young members, we can go to places that otherwise would be unreachable, and it does more to make Scouting for all our members more financially viable. Not only that, but we can also support people, in our local Pleasley community, particularly those vulnerable and unable to get about.
We have so many people to thank; Mansfield Town Football Club, Masonite, Tesco, Mansfield Building Society, REAL Education,
Pleasley Miners Welfare, The Nags Head Pleasley, Cllr
Sharron Hartshorn, Councillors from Notts County Council and Mansfield District Council, the people of Pleasley for supporting our fundraising efforts.
I would also personally like to thank all those leaders, parents, and young members of 10th Mansfield Scout Group and CARGO Explorer Scout Unit for rattling buckets, manning stalls, pressganging people into parting with their cash. Special mention to Steve Cree and Joyce Cree for their Steps Challenge, Lewis Suzanne Pugh Grandad who has donated regularly, the hard work of our fundraising team of Susan Ambler, Eve Stokes and Maggie Maggie, and to Sarah Bond and Matthew Bond for their work with MTFC in getting the final money we needed.
Thank you everyone, there are not enough words to express my gratitude.
Roger,
Group Scout Leader - 10th Mansfield Scout Group
